Peach Pit are an Indie Pop band from Vancouver, Canada. Formed in 2016 they now have 3 full albums plus their debut EP, Sweet FA.

The Band

Peach Pit was founded by four friends over a school music project that goes back to 2014.

Neil Smith - Lead Vocalist & Rhythm Guitar

Chris Vanderkooy – Lead Guitar

Peter Wilton – Bass Guitar

Mikey Pascuzzi – Drums

& Recently joined by Dougal McLean on Synth & Multi-Instrument.

They officially launched with their debut EP Sweet FA in June 2016 which featured some earworm tracks like Peach Pit, Seventeen & Drop the Guillotine (which if you are a guitar player, this is a really fun track to play!)

Peach Pit is described by their themselves as “chewed Bubblegum-Pop” and others as “sad-boy pop/rock” as their music can invoke some pretty deep emotions. It’s the sort of stuff that if you wanted to feel something, you could sit down for a moment in a lowly lit room, put on a track and get those emotions out.

Equally as introspective as some of their music can be, they bring some insane energy to the stage.

Live Gigs

I discovered Peach Pit just as we were going into the lockdowns of that word we shall not say. As a live music lover, they were on my list of must-see artists as soon as life was back to normal.

I finally I managed to see them in Leeds in 2022 and thinking I was going to see a chilled indie band, I thought it’d be perfect for a little... "cigarrette" before-hand however, they surprised me with how much energy they brought.

The entire night there were chewed bubblegum mosh pits opening up whilst the the songs were being sang word for word by devoted fans.

They opened with Led Zeppelin, Travelling Riverside Blues which for me being a massive classic rock fan was amazing.

They did the same thing when I saw them again in London in June the following year but instead of a classic rock, they opened with a Metallica track. I think it was Battery but I could be wrong.

It’s hard to imagine when you listen to their music that they would have this high energy and be opening with metal tracks but their talents are so diverse and that's what makes them special.

For anyone that loves a really good medium sized gig, Peach Pit would be at the top of my recommendations list!

Why We’re Listening

This band is so in sync with each other in terms of the sound that each track delivers and as a guitarist, I love hearing tracks lead by Chris Vanderkooy’s mellow & continuous guitar riffs.

Each one of their albums has some seriously addictive tracks and even after 3 years of listening to this band (a lot) I still listen back to some of the first tracks I discovered and get such a nostalgic feeling. As if I’m unlocking a lost memory every single time even though I'm not sure what it is I'm unlocking.

So, if you love indie rock or pop you’ll love Peach Pit.

If you’re a fan of old school classic rock, you’ll be able to hear those influences in this band too.

And if you’re enjoying some of the latest chilled pop tracks from the likes of Troye Sivan or Tame Impala then you’ll also probably enjoy Peach Pit as they have so many old & new influences in their music I feel they would appeal to a multitude of people.
